Jerusalem wanderings and musings

“Israel, just like Palestine, is a refugee camp.”

Dear Friends,

The quote in the subject line for this entry is from Amos Oz. I read his book, A Tale of Love and Darkness, over the two months I spent living in the Old City in Jerusalem.  The book touched me very deeply- it is the account of Oz’ childhood in Jerusalem, the growth of Israel, its wars and relations with Arab neighbors, from his child’s eyes and from the eyes of Oz as Israel’s leading novelist and peace activist.

As I read the book I realized I wanted to contact Oz and tell him about the trainings in Nonviolent Communication I  was offering in Israel andPalestine.

Please read this moving and uplifting account of the translation of this book into Arabic:  http://www.nytimes.com/2010/03/07/world/middleeast/07khoury.html?sudsredirect=true

  1. Hi Roberta,
How long will you be in Israel? I am arriving later this week and am organizing a visit with our Arab Waldorf school in the Galilee for Wednesday, March 23. there might be an earlier visit to our integrated Jewish/Arab Waldorf kindergarten next week. I’m waiting to hear. This is also a precious school. Also, have you connected with NVC trainer, Arnina Kashtan in Tel Aviv? She’s delightful. I hope you get a chance to meet her if you haven’t yet.

    Thanks for the blogs. Shepha
